Find a qualification that fits
Five types of study, each described by what it covers, who awards it and what you can study next.

Degree-level study, in two stages.
Undergraduate and postgraduate study
An undergraduate degree is the first stage. It teaches subject knowledge and the study skills needed for further study or work. If you are not sure about a career yet, compare what each degree covers before you choose.
Postgraduate study comes after a first degree. Check the entry requirements to see whether your qualifications and experience fit, and ask how the programme builds on what you have already done.

Structured study in one subject area.
Diplomas and professional qualifications
Diplomas and professional qualifications cover one subject in a set structure. Some students use them to start higher education. Others use them to update their skills for work.
For each one, the programme page will show the curriculum, the awarding organisation, the recognition and what you can study next.

Preparation before a degree.
Foundation and bridging programmes
Not everyone enters higher education in the same way. Where they are offered, foundation and bridging programmes help eligible students build subject knowledge and study skills before a further qualification.
Check the entry requirements, what you must complete, and which qualifications you can apply for afterwards.

One subject, without a full degree.
Professional development and short courses
Short courses cover a single topic or skill. They can help if your job has changed, or if you want to try a subject before you commit to longer study. Each page will state the length, the cost and what you receive at the end (a certificate, credits, or neither).

Studying across borders takes more checking.
International study
If you plan to study overseas, or want an international qualification, check five things: who awards it, whether it is recognised where you need it, whether you are eligible, what study can follow, and how to apply.
We will show international options with their requirements and limits. We cannot promise a place on a further course, a visa or a job.
What every programme page will state
A title does not tell you enough. Each programme page will use the same checklist, so you can compare programmes on the same facts.
